This apple pie was taught to me by a friend of mine from the theater group of l’Arboç, Mercè Ribas. Since she passed her recipe on to me, it has become one of my star desserts. I prepare it for family celebrations, meals with friends or simply to treat ourselves at home… and it always succeeds! It is one of those desserts that disappear from the table before you can repeat.
It is an easy apple pie, homemade, very juicy and does not require great baking skills. Moreover, you can adapt it as you like: in the form of apple pie with puff pastry, in small tartlets, with a touch of cinnamon or with raisins, walnuts or even cranberries.
Apple pie is a classic in many cultures. From the famous American apple pie to the traditional French apple pie. And although there are a thousand ways to prepare it, this version is undoubtedly one of the simplest and most delicious. Ingredients for 10 persons
200 g sugar
6 tablespoons of milk
4 tablespoons sunflower oil
2 eggs
200 g wheat flour
1 sachet of baking powder
4 large apples
50 g butter
1 egg (for coating)

How to make an apple pie
In a large bowl, mix the sugar, milk, oil, eggs, flour and yeast. Beat well until a homogeneous dough is obtained. Set aside.
Peel the apples, remove the core and cut them into half moons. Set aside.
Melt the butter in the microwave, add an egg and beat well. Set aside.
Cover a baking tray with parchment paper and pour the dough. Spread it evenly over the entire surface.
Place the sliced apples on top of the dough, covering it completely.
With the help of a brush, paint the top with the butter and egg mixture.
Bake in the oven (160 °C, fan mode) for about 35 to 45 minutes, until golden brown and when pricked it comes out clean.
Let it cool… and enjoy!

Tricks for a juicy apple pie
To check for doneness, prick with a knife or toothpick: if it comes out clean, it is ready.
If you want to give it a special touch, sprinkle powdered sugar on top once it is cold.
Use Golden or Reineta apples, which hold up well to cooking and are sweet and juicy.

Apple pie variations
Apple pie with puff pastry: replace the sponge cake base with a sheet of puff pastry.
Apple pie with cinnamon: add a teaspoon of cinnamon powder to the dough.
With dried fruit: mix raisins or nuts into the dough before baking.
French style apple tart: cover with a thin layer of apricot jam when removed from the oven to give it shine.
